Building an auditable machining-time estimate

Separate cutting-feed time, rapid motion, tool changes and fixed delays for a transparent estimate.

Use the complete cutting path per pass rather than part dimensions, then multiply by the explicit number of passes. Record rapid distance and a realistic achieved rate separately. Add measured tool-change, probing, spindle, coolant, handling and dwell time as visible terms.

For repeated production, compare estimates with observed controller or stopwatch data and retain the date, program revision, machine, operator/automation state and sample size. Short moves rarely maintain programmed rates because acceleration and controller behavior dominate. A transparent manual estimate is useful for planning, but it is not a machine simulation or production guarantee.
